Ti-6Al-4V powders are densified in uniaxial die pressing experiments carried out isothermally at 1000°C (in the beta-field of the alloy) and during thermal cycling between 800 and 1000°C (straddling the alpha/beta phase transformation of the alloy). Thermal cycling enhances the kinetics of densification through the emergence of transformation-mismatch superplasticity as a densification mechanism. The powder densification kinetics under cyclic and isothermal conditions are studied for various powder morphologies as a function of time and applied stress, and are compared with analytical and numerical models.
